Frequently Asked Questions for the World Brand Design Society – Student Design Awards.

Q1. Who can enter the Student Design Awards?

A. The World Brand Design Society Student Design Awards are for all kinds of part-time and full-time students; including recent graduates (3 years after graduation). Meaning you can submit work three years after graduation.


Q2. What does Student mean for the entry of these awards?

A. Any student in part time or full time studies at college, art and design school, academies or universities around the world, e.g.

• All full and part time students
• Student Graduate (3 years after graduation)
• Student Postgraduate (3 years after graduation)
• There is no age limit


Q3. What work can I enter?

A. Any designed brand asset or project deliverables, large or small, that has been created by a student or young creative or student team can be entered in the World Brand Design Society Student Design Awards. Entry for the main categories include:

• Brand Identity Design
• Packaging Design
• Graphic Design
• Digital Design
• Spatial Design
• Creative Campaign
• Illustration
• Typography
• Photography
• Writing


Q4. How old can the project be when entering?

A. The designed brand assets or project deliverables must have been published or gone live in the last three years starting from the final deadline date of that year of entry, that being the 1st December.


Q5. Can I enter my work into multiple categories with the same piece of work?

A. Yes, you may submit your piece of work into as many categories as you wish.


Q6. How old can the project be when entering?

A. The designed brand assets or project deliverables must have been published or gone live in the last three years starting from the final deadline date of that year of entry, that being the 1st December.


Q7. Is there a limit to the number of entries I can submit?

A. You can submit as many works/entries into the awards as you may wish.


Q8. Does the entry need to be in English?

A. Yes, all submissions must be in English; submissions in other languages will not be considered.


Q9. Do I have to send you a physical sample of assets or product?

A. No, is not required that you send the actual sample of your product, asset and project deliverables to the competition. Images and a description of the product are sufficient. However, you have to prove published work is published work, especially if your visuals are CAD visualised. Judges have the right to ask for samples if they believe a stated published work is a concept.


Q10. Who owns the copyright for submitted materials?

A. Copyright and all other rights remain with the student(s). However, by submitting your designs into the awards, you are giving the World Brand Design Society right to use your images for marketing and promotional purposes. The World Brand Design Society may use images in any media publications.


Q11. What are the main actions and deliverables required for submitting an entry for the awards?

Prepare the following material:
- A minimum of 5 images
- A description of your submission
- All listed contributors should be credited for the work
- Make sure you have all social media handles (account names) for all contributors

Q12. Will there be any deadline extensions?

A. No, there will not be any deadline extension beyond the 1st December until 23:59 GMT+0.


Q13. When are the final results presented?

A. Winners works will be presented from the 1st January to the 15th January via all social media channels.


Q14. What does Nominee mean?

All selected student works are first nominated in December and are given the title nominee by WBDS Editors and External Judges. It is here where External Judges make their final decisions of what work will receive an award. Student Black, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Shortlist Awards will be published in January via the WBDS social media channels.

The title 'WBDS Student Nominee' is not an award that receives a certificate or a trophy. Still, the nomination is a form of recognition as a notable creative work that has been selected by the World Brand Design Society and its External Judges. A student may enter the title of World Brand Design Society Awards Student Nominee to a list of achievements or curriculum vitae.
