4 Student Design Awards that are Worth Entering and Winning

As a student in the field of design, you have the opportunity to showcase your talents and abilities to a global audience of design professionals and future employers. Here are four student design awards that are worth entering and winning. 1. WBDS Student Design Awards

The World Brand Design Society (WBDS) Student Design Awards recognise and celebrate excellence in design from students and recent graduates from around the world.

The awards cover a wide range of design disciplines related to corporate and consumer brand design. Categories include identity, packaging, graphic, digital, spatial, campaign, illustration, typography, photography, writing and more.

The top five student design works win small scholarships. First Place: £2000, Second Place: £1000, Third Place: £750, Fourth Place: £500 and Fifth Place: £250.

2. D&AD New Blood Awards

D&AD exists to stimulate, enable and award creative excellence in design and advertising. Since 1962, D&AD has been inspiring a community of creative thinkers by celebrating and stimulating the finest in design and advertising. The D&AD Awards are recognised globally as the ultimate creative accolade, entered and attended by the best from around the world.

The D&AD New Blood Awards are open to students, recent graduates, and emerging creatives worldwide. Entrants are given briefs set by well-established companies, and their final projects are judged by experts from the creative industry.

Registration and Submission Fees:

The cost per entry is 20 GBP. For D&AD Full Members and Education Network Members, it’s 15 GBP. D&AD Also has a free entries scheme for those who need help financing their entry.

3. RSA Student Design Awards

The RSA. The Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. Where world-leading ideas are turned into world-changing actions. They are committed to a world that is resilient, rebalanced and regenerative, where everyone can fulfil their potential. The RSA has been at the forefront of significant social impact for over 260 years. Their proven change process, rigorous research, innovative ideas platforms and unique global network of changemakers, work collectively to enable people, places and the planet to flourish.

The RSA Student Design Awards is a global open innovation competition that has been running since 1924. It challenges students and recent graduates to tackle pressing social, environmental, and economic issues and proposes creative solutions that can shift the system and shape the future.

4. Red Dot Awards

The Red Dot Design Awards is an international design competition for product design, communication design, and design concepts. It is open to students from universities, other institutions of higher learning, and vocational schools, as well as to young designers.

On the Young Professionals Application Day, all designers who have graduated within the past five years have 24 hours to take part in the lottery for 50 free registration places for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2023. The 50 upcoming talents selected will then submit their products for evaluation by the jury. If they win an award, they will have free access to extensive measures, which are included in the basic Winner Package, to communicate their success in the award visibly at an international level. For those not selected they will need to pay as follows:

Red Dot Award: Product Design:
- Registration fee between 450 - 750 euros
- Plus a Winner Package for the best distinction 6,900 euros
- or Winner Package for distinction 4,500 euros.
- Total price between 4950 - 7650 euros

Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design:
- Registration fee between 400 - 600 euros
- Plus a Winner Package for the best distinction 5,995 euros
- or Winner Package for distinction 3,950 euros
- Total price between 4350 - 6595 euros

Red Dot Award: Design Concept:
- Registration fee between 107 - 426 euros
- Winner Package is free
- Total price between 107 - 426 euros
